Explore nature

We are excited to share what’s happening at the Hartzell House this winter season and provide an unforgettable place to experience winter beauty in the Laurel Highlands – and a place to warm up, eat socialize and rest after.

Frank Lloyd Wright Houses open until December 31st.

Visit Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob until December 31st.  Both homes are a sight to see before the year end. Planning a trip after that? Hartzell House is a four season destination, and we are surrounded by enchanting views and beautiful landscapes in every season.

Hiking for outdoor enthusiasts

The Hartzell House is a close neighbor to the state of Maryland and we love Swallow Falls State Park.

Located in Garrett County Maryland, Swallow Falls hugs the Youghiogheny River and has the oldest grove of Eastern Hemlock and White Pine.

Ohiopyle is also just an 18 minute scenic drive that Robert and I also visit.  I recently learned that Ohiopyle has 79 miles of hiking trails! While these are two of our favorite parks there is such an abundance of nature to explore hartzellhouse.com/area.htm

Snow Adventure

When we  have a snowfall, many of the  guests love to cross country ski or snowshoe the trails at Laurel Ridge State Park. Snowshoeing is a must do activity on my list!  The trails are  beautifully groomed trails and warming stations are available. https://www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/LaurelRidgeStatePark/Pages/Skiing.aspx

For those that prefer downhill skiing – Wisp Resort-located in beautiful Deep Creek, Maryland is only 20 minutes away from our cozy door. wispresort.com/lift-tickets

Or take a drive a bit further of about 45 minutes and experience the skiing at Seven Springs https://www.7springs.com/plan-your-trip/lift-access/tickets.aspx

Why not make it a long weekend?

Many of our guests visit Hartzell House to find a place to rest and see Fallingwater, but don’t realize how much there is to enjoy at Hartzell House and  in the Laurel Highlands.  A common theme that we hear from guests is “I wish we would have stayed another night”. Some folks even work from the Hartzell House and explore the Laurel Highlands in their off time just to stretch their stay

Extend your stay with our Cabin Fever Special and enjoy 50% off the second night room rate when you stay two consecutive nights in January and February 2025. Discount is automatically applied when you book your two night reservation between January 3rd and February 28,2025.
